Sean Cumming

About 2 Oceans Maritime Academy

The Academy was established in 2007 by Sean Cumming – a highly qualified RYA certified Sail & Power Instructor and examiner and the only RYA Cruising Instructor trainer in South Africa. Sean, together with his team of experienced instructors, ensures that students leave as competent and confident sailors.

As a Royal Yachting Association recognised training centre, we offer all the RYA sailing and theory courses, which cater to the first time leisure sailor, more experienced yachtsman, or hose looking to earn a commercial skippers license.

The lecture room and moorings are on the Hout Bay Yacht Club Marina in beautiful Hout Bay, on the outskirts of Cape Town, South Africa. 

Fast Track Programmes

We package back to back RYA modules with mileage trips that give you the required miles, passages and days at sea to qualify for the various certificates of competence.  Our commitment to giving you real offshore sailing experience means you not only qualify, but are truly competent when being examined, and later when taking command of your own vessel.

Adventure sailing

Our distance voyages fast track your sea miles. We are the only sailing school to offer sailing experience to destinations such as Madagascar and Rio, and regular mileage trips to Durban and back.

We train on a Pacer 37 and a Fast 42 – both Racer-Cruiser class boats – spacious training yachts and great fun to sail.
